Behavioral Medicine
As members of the Department of Behavioral Medicine,
our goal is to address the psychological needs of our
patients and their families. We are available to assist
them, throughout the course of their illness and treatment,
in coping with the emotional aspects of medical problems
and surgery.

Von Shade-Zeldow, Ph.D.
Dr. Shade-Zeldow developed the CINN Department
of Behavioral Medicine in 1991 and currently serves
as its director. She received her doctorate in
clinical psychology from Purdue University in
1976 and is currently Assistant Professor in the
Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
at Northwestern University Medical School. Dr.
Shade-Zeldow serves as a member of the program
development advisory group for ABTA and has been
a frequent speaker at their symposia. She has
also been involved in research examining the post-stroke
adaptation of patients and their caregivers. Her
clinical interests include patient and family
adjustment to potentially catastrophic illness,
stress and pain management, and pre-surgical education
and intervention with medical patients.

Dino Kostas, Ph.D.
Dr. Kostas joined the CINN Department of Behavioral
Medicine in August 1996. He received his doctorate
in clinical psychology from Northwestern University
Medical School in 1994 and completed a fellowship
in geropsychology and rehabilitation at Rush University
Medical Center. He holds an academic appointment
in the University of Chicago Hospital's Department
of Psychiatry and is a consultant to the Multiple
Sclerosis Center at Rush University Medical Center.
His clinical interests include the psychological
concomitants of illness, the treatment of depression
and anxiety, and stress and pain management.
