Lawrence W. Frank, M.D.
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Lawrence W. Frank, M.D., is a member of the Chicago
Institute of Neurosurgery and Neuroresearch (CINN),
Chicago, Illinois. He is a founding member of
the CINN Institute for Spine Care, director of
CINN's Spine and Sports Medicine Fellowship program,
Assistant Professor in both Physical Medicine
and Rehabilitation and Neurosurgery at Rush Medical
College, and a clinical assistant professor at
Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in
Maywood, Illinois.
A board-certified physician with 10 years of
experience, Dr. Frank specializes in physical
medicine and rehabilitation. Dr. Frank is highly
skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of patients
with spine, joint, nerve, and musculoskeletal
diseases. He also has a keen interest and expertise
in treating sports-related injuries. Dr. Frank
employs a wide-range of minimally invasive treatment
techniques including fluoroscopically guided spinal
injections in conjunction with physical therapy,
radiofrequency neurotomy, and intradiscal electrothermal
annuloplasty (IDET) to reduce the pain and promote
long-term healing of his patients.
Dr. Frank earned his medical degree in 1991 at
the University of Illinois Medical School in Chicago.
After completing his degree, Dr. Frank held a
yearlong internship in internal medicine at Evanston
Hospital in Evanston, Illinois, which is affiliated
with Northwestern University Medical School. In
1992, Dr. Frank continued his education at Northwestern
by pursuing a residency in Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation at the Rehabilitation Institute
of Chicago. When he completed his residency in
1995, Dr. Frank held a Sports and Spine Medicine
Fellowship at Illinois Spine and Sports Care Center
in Bloomingdale.
Beginning in 1996, Dr. Frank joined the medical
staffs of several Chicago area hospitals, including
Hinsdale Hospital, GlenOaks Medical Center, and
Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, where he maintains
privileges today. He also served as a team physician
for various local high schools and cared for both
college and professional athletes. Dr. Frank joined
CINN in 1998.
An active speaker and author, Dr. Frank has published
several articles and book chapters on electromyography,
sports medicine, and the rehabilitation of musculoskeletal
injuries. He is president of the Illinois Society
of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and sits
on the Board of Directors of the Physiatric Association
of Spine, Sports, and Occupational Rehabilitation.
He is also a member of the American Academy of
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, American
Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, American
College of Sports Medicine, and North American
Spine Society.
